Bingeing in Barcelona Has Never Been Better
The Catalonia region, of which Barcelona is the capital city, is known far and wide for its culinary wonders. Many of the Spanish contributions to global cuisine come from Barcelona especially the seafood dishes that chefs and gourmands rave about for days on end. Indeed, if extraordinary food served on ordinary days at affordable prices is on the agenda for a vacation, Barcelona is the place to binge like never before and yet think that every added pound is worth the pleasures of food.
Typical foods in Barcelona are made from a few essential ingredients, which include olive oil, garlic and tomato. In fact, just add bread to the mix and you have a truly Barcelonan food made from simple ingredients and yet producing savory results.
Lest anybody thinks that Barcelonan food is very simple, however, it must be said that the city's cuisine is an innovative mix of various ingredients that mix together so well despite their seemingly contradictory nature. For example, vegetable dishes have raisins and nuts, snails and rabbits are combined in one dish, meat is cooked with a couple of fruits, and poultry can be mixed with seafood.
Such unusual combinations often require greater effort and time to cook to perfection but Catalans are anything but patient when it comes to their foods. Tourists to the city may want to learn to cook the Catalan way in the comfort of their holiday apartments although we suggest ordering your food instead so as to get instant gratification, not to mention that there is nothing like bingeing on the genuine Catalan food. (And speaking of holiday apartments, be sure to book one in advance through on online accommodation reservations site - it's easier, faster and definitely more convenient)
The typical foods inside a Barcelonan's home feature one or two sauces for which the city is known for. There are actually five main types of sauces - sofregit, samfaina, picada, allioli, and romesco - that can be poured on the meat, poultry and seafood dishes. Let your host serve as the food guide so as to bring out the best in each dish. Bingeing will not be so negative when the food is as good as the way Barcelonans prepare them.
Each meal of the day has its own food stars to look forward to as soon as one meal is finished. For breakfast, coffee and bread in its many forms like pastry, canva and tostada are the first orders of the day. Or better yet, go for the xurros amb xocolata or churros con chocolate especially when you have a hangover.
Lunch and dinner may mean amanides (salads), sopas (soups) and even a entremesos (hors d'oeuvres) for starters followed by the meat courses like pollastre (chicken), carne (meat), pescado (fish) and mariscos (seafood) with arroz (rice) and possibly verduras (vegetables). Dessert can be simple fruits and flans.
Juts look over at the food selections, choose the best-looking one and order it. You can never go wrong with Barcelonan food although it might be wrong to binge so completely that gluttony is an accusation that can be thrown in your face. Leave room for dessert, please.
