Fish and Football: Summers in Barcelona Spain

When we think of Spain, the grandeur of a bullfight often comes to mind. But there's much more to the country, than that. If you're planning a trip to Europe this summer, then make sure to add Barcelona, Spain to your itinerary.  

A member of the European Union, Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula, in the southwestern region of the continent. In addition to the mainland, the nation of Spain also includes the Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands which are located in the Atlantic Ocean, and two cities located in North Africa.  

Barcelona is among the must-see cities that you should visit, during a summer vacation in Spain. It functions as both the capital and the most populated city in the entire country. Besides its importance in Spain itself, Barcelona has also become renowned as a global city. This is due to its importance in various realms, including finance, international trade, entertainment, and the arts. Spain's roots date back to the Roman Empire, when it was founded as a city of the empire. Throughout its history, Spain has become famous for its cultural contributions to the world, including some fantastic artwork. 

While Barcelona is an outstanding year-round tourist destinations, it's a particularly fantastic place to visit during the summer season. If you're interested in historic Spain, then visit Poble Espanyol, also known as the "Spanish Village." This is a tiny Spanish village, which contains different sections representing the various architectural styles of various regions in Spain. Besides the buildings themselves, you can also enjoy workshops and craft shops, where you can see traditional goods being made as Spaniards have done since ancient times. 

Meanwhile, if you're a soccer (football in Spain) fan, you can be one of the million people who visit the Barcelona FC Museum each year. And even if you aren't a soccer fan, you can still enjoy the museum. It contains a variety of soccer memorabilia, including soccer pictures, statues, and trophies. Here's some interesting trivia: Spain hosted the 1982 Word Cup, and in 1950 finished in fourth place.   

Located in the Mediterranean region, Spain boasts of a cornucopia of sea life. If you have children, then you'll definitely want to stop by the Barcelona Aquarium. And it's quite likely that you'll enjoy it too! The aquarium is located at Port Vell, which is the Barcelona port area.  

Finally, if you're a fan of art and Picasso in particular, then set aside some time for the Picasso Museum. You'd be one of nearly 900,000 annual visitors. The museum includes works that span Picasso's magnificent painting career. You'll be able to enjoy the evolution of his works, which made him one of the world's most renowned painters.
